Buy a Box of Books to Build Lives in Botswana

We are planning to work with
Andrew and Sandra Freeman and the Lelilo Trust in Botswana
to set up a library and Christian Bookshop.
Our aim is to supply a library of approximately 1000 books
plus up to 25 cartons of books to start the bookshop.
Andrew and Sandra explain that the main uses of the library
will be "Christians in general across the board, but in
particular Christian leaders such as Pastors, youth leaders,
Sunday School teachers etc".
As for the retail outlet the
target group will be "the Christian community at large with
a particular focus on building depth of faith in the
Christians. Andrew explains "John Stott has rightly said
that “The Church in Africa is one mile wide and one inch
deep”." .....we want to see Christians grow deeper in their
life in Christ so that it affects every area of their
thinking and actions. We want them to be able to have access
to the materials that other Christians in other parts of the
world have access to, to help them grow.
Andrew explains that current sources of literature have
included "donations from other Christians, Authors and
Publishers and Distributors for the library and for the
bookshop we are purchasing mainly through South Africa or
the USA the small amounts we can afford..... We have
continually put notices in our newsletter for second hand
books etc, but apart from when we were physically on
furlough folk tend to give money here and there rather than
actual books.
It is hoped that this shipment will give a capital boost to
continue.
Shipping will be the main expenditure and we expect this to
be in the range of $80 per carton. Financial donations can
be made to the Lelilo Trust in Botswana and individuals,
churches, youth groups, Sunday School and study groups can
make donations of books direct to
BookAid (Australia) /
Christian Books Australia

Current Progress
Bookshop: We have approximately 20 cartons of books for the
bookshop ready for shipping.
Library: As you will see from the photograph below we need
quite a few more books to meet the target set for the
library.
Our commitment will be to ensure there is a sound base of
good evangelical and reformed literature in the library.
We need:
- Good commentaries - particularly OT
- Doctrine - Basic, Systematic and Specific
- Standard classics
- Modern Authors
- Pastoral / Counselling
- Church History & Biography
- Apologetics
- Sunday School Ministry
Andrew and Sandra have said they will be in Australia on
furlough soon. We hope to have the library and
collection for the bookstore completed by then. We do invite
suggestions and recommendations from readers.
We plan to advertise, specifically targeting the need for
books for Botswana and are looking at New Life and the
Southern Cross papers. We hope to place other advertisements
in other Christian publications and have allowed a budget of
$350.00 for this.
Do make this a matter of prayer that the Lord will supply
the funds plus literature needed.
