How Books Are Sorted

Back to How To Donate

The type of books will vary between all three destinations and when we receive a donation of books and bibles we distribute the books through all three destinations.

Books not required or unsuitable for overseas are sold through our web site and store at Rockdale to raise funds to support the distribution overseas.

Most sorting of books takes place at Fitzroy Falls though we have storage at Rockdale.

Book Aid Sorting Area
This area is designated specifically for sorting donated books
All books are treated firstly for overseas distribution
Books in poor condition, heretical and very dated material are not distributed.
Rare or antiquarian books received are valued and replaced with more appropriate material for overseas.

How are books sorted?

In the first instance all donated books are assessed for overseas distribution. If we find that titles are duplicated or a book has antiquarian value or is highly marketable we will sell through our web site and the value of the book is exchanged for books more suited for overseas distribution.

When we receive a donation this is recorded and we make an initial trawl to select books that are suitable for any of our overseas recipients.

Books for retail shops are immediately packed in standard boxes and books for Christian workers shelved in our sorting shed ready for despatch. We have a separate section for books suitable for overseas libraries. These are sorted according to category on the shelf so that we can see at a glance how a library is developing. (see photographs)

Books that are damage are set aside either for repair or to be resold or recycled. Our policy is not to offer damaged stock to recipients in the belief that other Christians though poorer should be deserving of the very best.

A marketable value is recorded against the books remaining and not needed for overseas. These value of these books is exchanged to meet the direct costs of BookAid (Australia) (ie freight, advertising etc) and amount left over is exchanged for more appropriate books for overseas from Christian Books Australia.

We reserve the right to decide on the content of all overseas shipments.
